Make Personal Public Poetic About

Drawingforpeace.org is a collaborative project between you, lovers of peace everywhere, Jake Meismer, and Aaron Hughes. The project originated from Learning to Love You More assignment #34 (make a protest sign and protest). Aaron, a member of Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW), performed assignment #34 in the fall of 2006 at the intersection of Wright and Green Streets in Champaign, Illinois in order to strategically claim a space that challenge the everyday for a moment of thought, meditation, and PEACE. Building from this tactic drawingforpeace.org declares drawing a political tactic and invites artist, children, people of all shapes and sizes to dream, think, and imagine what a simple drawing can do for peace.

"Personal Notes" are a collection of visual messages for peace that have been sent to individual recipients. These individuals are sometimes friends or family of the sender and sometimes they are members of congress, senate, or the executive branch of government. These drawings are often seen as gifts by the recipients and represent an alternative way to communicate the human need for peace.

"Public Messages" are a collection of visual messages for peace. These messages are created in public spaces and directed to the general public. The messages are not permanent instillations but instead deteriorating momentary struggles for peace.
